Unit 12 - 2.2 Select appropriate materials and processes to develop creative solutions.

Unit 12 - 2.2   Select appropriate materials and processes to develop creative solutions.

This criteria is easily and readily picked up within the analysis section of a Gibbs Reflection (4) when you reflect on your practical work. Use the information below as starting points to address this work.

This assessment criteria can be met through a written analytical response whereby you write about and analyse the materials and processes use in the images you've looked at in your research...

Consider the way that the advert/images you've researched have been made, are they digital or are they film. What evidence have you got to support your assumption? Look at the way the images are used? Are they used on-line or are they used as point of sale in a shop? What difference does this make with regards to the materials, equipment and processes that may have been used?

Primarily you should establish whether the images are shot on DSLR's, medium format cameras with digital backs or view cameras with digital backs? How are the images shot, where are they shot, how are they lit, how have they worked with compositions, do they combine 'Pack Shots' with images that are more akin to lifestyle imagery?

Include examples of the work you refer to in your research, identify the type of equipment use in a professional situation if you recognise the characteristics of larger format cameras being use.

Your work

Once you've analysed the materials, equipment and processes used in industry, then consider your own approach... Are you shooting in a way that is conducive with producing professional standard images? What processes do you use that are used in industry? Why are the ways that you've worked appropriate for producing your final product? Will you be producing high quality final prints? Watch this ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDsIHhYPhzE

You could add your images - and compare and contrast the real adverts with your own. Look at the way that they've lit the subject, why does it shoot the subject, does it change from subject to subject e.g. is there a different approach to lighting when the theme is masculine compared to feminine? What processes address this and have you employed a similar approach?
