Unit 10 - 2.2   Select appropriate materials to develop creative solutions for a chosen A&D activity

Appropriateness of materials can fall into a couple of categories

1. Why are the materials appropriate in the instance of the photography you've looked at in your research. Explain why the photographers have used the materials that they have - why are they fit for purpose? You will need to research the photographers, discover what materials they use and then research the materials and discover what their characteristics and features are.

2. The photographers that you've looked at, make their work in a particular way using certain materials, why were these materials used and how closely might you be able to emulate their use of materials and what could be learned from doing so?

3. Why are your materials appropriate in the context of producing work within a college environment given your own personal economic and time constraints?

Distinction level work - might include evidence of using and trying different materials, with comparisons, analysis and evaluations of the different materials.

Materials you should look to evidence should include.

Films - different types and formats.
Chemicals - Different developing agents - XTOL, Rodinal and others sourced independently.
Papers - different types, finishes, fibre based, RC papers.
Final prints - Different finishes, types of paper, different methods and ways of mounting the work.
